"Play Again" highlights the rapidly decreasing number of opportunities children have to play outdoors in our society. According to Peter Berg of Planet Drum, the “average” American child recognizes over 100 corporate logos but can identify fewer than 10 plants, spends 90 % of their time indoors, and more than 7 hours a day with entertainment media.  A most challenging statement made refers to the reduced health outcomes that are being projected for this group. According to Richard Louv, journalist and author of the best-selling book, Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder, physicians are saying that this may be the first generation to die earlier than their parents.

"Frozen Yogurt Fridays" season is finally here and the impression I get from my own daughter is that the students are really excited about it. Although we have volunteers for this Friday (May 4) we need some more parent volunteers on other Fridays. If you have time between 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on any upcoming Friday, AND you have a valid police check, please let our Fro-Yo coordinator Farveh know by sending an e-mail to [email protected]
