It was wonderful that so many people came out to the McKee Welcome Back BBQ. Despite the threat of rain, the weather turned out perfectly with plenty of sun and warmth. Many thanks to the Principal Mr. Giorgi and Vice-Principal Mr. McGilvray and the teachers who stayed to help out and meet the parents. Thanks too to the parent volunteers: Mark and Monica Morishita, Jennifer and Gordon Schmidt, Julie Costanzo, Mai Asari, Alireza and Mehrak Youssefi, Steve Douglas, Jaehun Chung, John Choi, Arnold Chan.

A special thanks to Nancy Charron for organizing the tickets and parents and teachers who helped behind the scenes in preparation for the event: Eman Kairallah, Mai Asari, Karen Borrel, Mehrak and Alireza Youssefi, Bonnie Yu, Julie Costanzo, Samantha and Janice. (Hope I didn't forget anyone because you are all so valued!).

Also many apologies to those who ordered but did not get the veggie burger due to supplier error. We thank you so much for your patience!

All the best for the new school year!

Dear McKee community,

Hope you all had a fantastic summer and are looking forward to a great school year! To kick start the year, the school along with the school council are hosting a Welcome Back BBQ next Thursday, September 12 at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome. A pre-order form should have been sent home with your child for the food. The prices are the same as last year $7 per meal. More information on the form.

We will also be selling off McKee T-shirts in stock.

Come out and meet the McKee community!

Parents who wish to volunteer on Monday, September 9 during the day to help with organizing the tickets or on the night of the BBQ to help sell T-shirts are encouraged to contact us by e-mail at [email protected]

Interested in making a difference to your child's school? Do you have a couple of hours to spare one evening a month? Run for a position on the School Advisory Council at the first meeting of the year, Wednesday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the school!

Being a part of this council helps you to get involved in your child's schooling, offers you opportunities to meet other involved parents in the McKee community and ensures your voice is heard. You can run for positions on the executive: Chair, treasurer and secretary or a support position as a Member-at-large. Nominations forms are found at this LINK

Even if you are not planning to run for a position, come out and find out what the council is doing in your school and how you can help out in other ways!

Refreshments and child-minding are provided.

Dear McKee Community,

This evening will be our last School Advisory Council meeting for the year. Last week we were informed that SAC could send a representative to the design committee that is overseeing the plans for expanding McKee to accommodate full-day kindergarten (FDK) in September of 2014. The meeting took place on Monday, two days ago, and unexpectedly, the administration is now being pressed to make an immediate decision on the two proposals.

Our understanding of the two plans on the table is provided HERE. Proposal 3 has been discounted due to space and zoning issues. Our principal Mr. Giorgi is asking for feedback from both the teachers and the parents/guardians as to which plan is best for the students. Both proposals will cause considerable disruption to the school next year. Please take a moment to look at the proposals and to weigh in. The decision will be made at the end of the week.

A detailed presentation will be given at tonight's meeting. All community members are welcome to attend.

The annual fair is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2012 from 11 am to 2 pm at Earl Haig Secondary School, at 100 Princess Avenue.
